260,000 Meals Through Interfaith Solidarity
Abuja, Nigeria – COVID-19 Period
During the COVID-19 pandemic, ChabadAid witnessed the rapid deterioration of living conditions for thousands of vulnerable families in Nigeria. Many people depended entirely on their daily work to feed their households, and when movement restrictions prevented them from going out to earn a living, a day without work often meant a day without food.
In response, ChabadAid launched a major food support campaign in partnership with Muslim institutions across the country, with a special focus on widows, orphans, and families in urgent need.
Because movement restrictions made direct distribution extremely difficult, ChabadAid prepared large quantities of food packages and delivered them directly to the Grand Mosque, where trusted local religious institutions helped organize the distribution in accordance with government health guidelines.
A meaningful meeting was also held with the Grand Imam, who warmly welcomed the initiative and expressed deep gratitude for this powerful act of coexistence and solidarity between communities.
In total, 2,600 food packages were distributed. Each package was designed to support a family of five children for approximately two weeks, representing nearly 260,000 meals provided to vulnerable families during one of the most difficult periods of the crisis.
This initiative was made possible thanks to the support of the Jewish community and many partners, demonstrating that even in times of fear, restriction, and uncertainty, interfaith cooperation can become a source of dignity, protection, and hope.
