Field Distributions During COVID-19: Food and Health Support Across Nigeria

Nigeria – COVID-19 Humanitarian Distribution Program
During the COVID-19 pandemic, ChabadAid organized a major field distribution campaign of food packages accompanied by basic health and hygiene support for educational institutions and specialized centers serving people with disabilities.
Despite movement restrictions, security challenges, and the difficult health context, the operation reached hundreds of schools, learning centers, and care facilities across Nigeria, with a particular focus on vulnerable children, students, and individuals with special needs.
Each distribution was designed to provide practical assistance where it was most urgently needed, combining food support with health-conscious guidance and essential sanitary materials during a period of fear, restrictions, and uncertainty.
The program was personally overseen by Rabbi Israel Uzan, Chief Rabbi of Nigeria and Director of ChabadAid, who traveled on the ground under security escort to ensure that the packages reached the people and institutions most in need.
These field visits reflected ChabadAid’s commitment to accountability, dignity, and responsible humanitarian action, even during one of the most difficult periods of the pandemic.
Beyond the material assistance itself, the initiative brought encouragement to educators, caregivers, children, and families facing difficult conditions. It demonstrated that support for vulnerable communities during COVID-19 had to include not only food, but also health awareness, protection, and human presence.
This project stands as a powerful example of ChabadAid’s hands-on approach: identifying urgent needs, mobilizing resources, traveling directly to the field, and personally ensuring that assistance reaches those who need it most.
