Beyond Infrastructure: Clean Water for Bosa Iyah
Bosa Iyah, near Abuja – Nigeria, 2024
In 2024, Belgian philanthropists Mr. Patrick and Mrs. Ayala Benaud-Shalom further strengthened
their humanitarian commitment to Nigeria through a transformative clean water initiative in the
village of Bosa Iyah, located approximately 40 kilometers from Abuja.
Already deeply engaged in the country through multiple projects—including the full renovation and
rehabilitation of a school now serving 720 children—the family chose to expand their impact during
their visit for the school’s inauguration.
Recognizing the urgent need for safe drinking water in nearby communities, they initiated and
financed the drilling of a borehole and the construction of a water distribution center, providing
sustainable access to clean water for more than 3,000 people.
Mr. Benaud-Shalom personally attended the drilling process, actively participated in the
construction of the distribution structure, and joined in distributing food supplies to local
families—demonstrating hands-on leadership and a deeply personal commitment.
This water initiative represents one of several humanitarian actions supported by the family in
Nigeria, reflecting a broader vision that combines education, essential infrastructure, and food
security to promote long-term community development.
Through their generosity, thousands of families now benefit from improved health conditions,
dignity, and renewed opportunity.
