Smile Days: Bringing Joy and Education to Children During COVID-19

Nigeria – COVID-19 Period
During the COVID-19 pandemic, many children in Nigeria faced isolation, fear, and
disruption. Some were hospitalized and cut off from normal social interaction, while
many others saw their schools closed and found themselves without structure, activities,
or educational support.
In response, ChabadAid developed a special initiative designed not only to provide
assistance, but also to bring joy, emotional relief, and meaningful engagement to
children during this difficult period.
Professional entertainers, educators, actors, and youth activity leaders were mobilized to
organize dedicated “Smile Day” programs. These events combined entertainment,
humor, games, and educational activities, creating safe and uplifting moments for
children affected by the pandemic.
The goal was to remind children that even in times of crisis, they were not forgotten.
Through laughter, creativity, and guided activities, the program helped restore
confidence, emotional strength, and a sense of normal childhood.
These Smile Day initiatives reached children in hospitals as well as young people
impacted by school closures, offering them moments of happiness, learning, and human
connection at a time when they needed it most.
This project reflects ChabadAid’s belief that humanitarian support is not limited to food,
water, or material aid – it also includes emotional care, dignity, and the power to bring
light into difficult moments.
